The value of dialogue:

a phone call, a daisy, and a simple truth

Last night, I made a phone call.

One of those calls that starts with a few sincere reflections, a touch of discouragement… and ends in laughter.

On the other end of the line was Maurizio Papa – entrepreneur, trainer, and my very first client since June 2024, when I began this new path as a strategic marketing consultant.

Maurizio is not just a well-prepared professional. He’s a brilliant mind, a person who lives and teaches – among many things – marketing from the inside. And precisely because of that, in that moment, he had the courage and clarity to stop and question himself.

Not because he doesn’t know what he’s doing – quite the opposite.

But because, as he himself said during our conversation:

“On your own, it’s complicated. Maybe even impossible.”

You need another perspective, a trusted person with an external view, to clearly see what’s working and what’s not, to better direct your energy.

Our story in short

When we first started working together, there was already an agency managing his communication.

Then Maurizio decided to open up to new operational ideas, test different paths, and try new experiments.

A journey fully consistent with his dynamic intelligence.

Meanwhile, I held firm to my initial idea:

👉 His target audience is, paradoxically, on the channels where he had invested the least.

Because this is precisely my job:

to serve as a bridge between the entrepreneur and the operational world of communication.

It’s not enough for something to “work.”

It has to work for you, for your brand, for your audience.

When dialogue is real, something happens

That call, which could have remained stuck in frustration, instead became a precious conversation. Honest, clear, full of respect and listening.

We talked about vision, about strategy, about messages that land and others that hang in the air.

We gave meaning back to the choices – and we did it together, each in our own role.

And then, he gave me a beautiful image. Speaking about my mio ultimo post su Linkedin (inspired by the book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People), he told me:

“It’s like a daisy: every fragrant petal is a thought that circles around a single, strong, steady concept.”

Exactly. Perhaps this is the very heart of my work.

📌 To be that steady thought.

📌 To be that external presence that helps you put things back into perspective.

📌 To inspire, motivate, and provide direction. With respect. With authenticity. With lightness.

The value of questioning yourself

I believe one of the strongest qualities of a leader is precisely this:

the ability to seek dialogue.

To question oneself with clarity – not out of insecurity, but in order to evolve.

Maurizio Papa has this quality. And I say it with admiration.

Because the value of a professional is not only in what is seen, in what is produced, but in the ability to grow through others, to listen, to improve in relation.

And if you don’t know him yet, I wholeheartedly recommend reading his newsletter:

it’s a concentrate of experience, insight, and depth.

Maybe we should start with a phone call.

And who knows – maybe it will even end with a laugh 🤗.
